Cardenas Realty was founded in 1947 by Salvador “S. M.” Cardenas, deceased, S.M., or “Chalo“ as he was called by close friends and family, served the greater Edinburg and McAllen area in residential, farm & ranch, and commercial real estate for decades. Cardenas was also a prominent radio personality on the Valley's KURV radio. As a master of marketing, honest dealings and the utmost courtesy, S.M. led Cardenas Realty to become one of the area's most successful real estate firms in its time. He and a handful of other local realtors were instrumental in establishing the present day Multiple Listing Service in the McAllen area which now boasts over 500 realtor members. S.M.'s two sons, Charles C. Cardenas and Don S. Cardenas, both joined the firm in the 1970's and later became Brokers.
Charles Cardenas is the Broker for Cardenas Commercial Properties located in McAllen, Texas, where he specializes in large commercial investment properties and property management. Charles' wife, Norma Cardenas, joined the firm in the early 1980's however, is currently not practicing. She is the hospital administrator for a local cancer hospital.
Don Cardenas is the Broker for Don Cardenas Realty in Edinburg, Texas, where he specializes in residential, farm & ranch and select commercial properties. Don's wife, Mimi Cardenas, GRI, joined in 2000 as a Realtor Associate after 23 years with the Texas Workforce Commission. Don and Mimi are members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Edinburg Rotary Club, where Don was the 2003-2004 Club President. Mimi is currently serving as a Director of the Greater McAllen Board of Realtors.
In 2003, the real estate legacy continued as the third generation of Cardenas' entered into the Cardenas real estate family. Myssie Cardenas-Barajas and Don S. Cardenas, Jr. are the newest members of the legacy that began in 1947. Myssie is extremely active in the Greater McAllen Association of Realtors and with the Women's Council of Realtors. Don, Jr. is kept busy working as a Pharmaceutical Rep plus keeps active in real estate specializing in bank repossessions. Don Cardenas Realty today is still a family run organization that prides itself on the fundamentals that S.M. established 57 years ago... honesty, integrity and courtesy. Few Real Estate offices in the Rio Grande Valley have been in business for this length of time and fewer have kept it in the family.
